Why do Middle-Easterners wear head dresses? The head dress, or hijab, burqa or chador, is a symbol of devotion to the Muslim religion. The Holy Qur’an requests that women of Islam cast down their looks and guard their private selves… and do not display their ornaments. In modern times, most scholars agree that basic requirements are that when in the presence of someone of the opposite sex, a woman should cover her body and walk and dress in a way that does not draw sexual attention to her. The head dress enables Muslims to focus on their faith without sexual distraction. |
